Apple Likely to Launch a Tile-Like Tracker

Apple will host a special event a the Steve Jobs Theatre on September 10 where it is expected to launch the next-generation iPhones - the Apple iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apart from this, the company is also expected to launch a Tile-like Bluetooth tracker that will be used for finding various connected devices.

The internal build of iOS 13 as seen by MacRumors suggests that Apple would launch a Tile-like device codenamed "B389" at its upcoming event. The Cupertino, California based company's Bluetooth based device will be closely integrated with the new Find My app that will combine the company's previous Find My iPhone and Find My Friends app into one.

The report suggests that the internal build of the Find My app in iOS 13 contains a new "Items" tab that will be used for tracking the location of users' belongings connected using the device. Users will be notified when they are away from a tagged item and they will be able to track the item by pressing a button in the Find My app, which in turn would make the Apple's Tile like device to emit a sound that would allow users to locate the lost item.

What's interesting is that if users are unable to find a lost item, they will be able to tag it under the Lost Mode. This would activate a mechanism that would allow other iPhone users to locate the lost item. Upon finding the lost item, other iPhone users will be able to return the item using the owner's contact information that would be provided to them by the connected Apple device. The report notes that strangers could be informed using notification in the Find My app that they have located a lost item.

The report further notes that the device would come with a small replaceable battery - like the button cell in watches - and that it would send a final location of a tagged item to the user before draining out completely. As far as the price is concerned, a separate report by 9To5 Mac notes that Apple could price the device at a relatively affordable point owing to the fact that users will have to buy multiple devices. However, there are no further estimates regarding the pricing yet.
